MIND / BODY / SPIRIT
YOGA FUNDAMENTALS (YOGA 101)
This is our Beginner's Yoga School Series - if you are new to yoga, or are seeking a more structured approach to learning a few poses at a time, then this class is for you. This class is designed to provide an overview of yoga philosophy, introduction of basic yoga postures, focusing on structural alignment, benefits of each postue and breathing techniques. Class meets once each week, and students are encouraged to attend one additional 'drop-in' class each week, for additional practice (included).
MIND / BODY FLOW BASICS (YOGA 201)
Gain warrior strength and fluid movement in our workshop for advanced beginners. Refine your technique on standing postures, breath-work and learn to flow with the full Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation). Class includes more advanced postures and different themes each week, with continued focus on alignment, breathing, concentration, and developing a home practice. Class meets once each week, and students are encouraged to attend one additional 'drop-in' class each week, for additional practice (included).
MOVING TOWARD BALANCE (YOGA 301)
Six weeks of flowing yoga classes, geared for students with solid grasp of alignment and use of breath in postures. Each week focuses on a different theme, with emphasis ranging from: being present, twists, handstands, foreward bends, and inversions. Class utilizes Rodney Yee's book Moving Toward Balance and students are encouraged to begin developing a steady home practice. Class meets once each week, and students are encouraged to attend one additional 'drop-in' class each week, for additional practice (included).
THE PRACTICE (YOGA 401)
Bringing it all together, this workshop series includes flowing yoga poses, with breath work, meditation, mantras and Satsang (community). Classes will deepen the practice of headstands and the wheel (backbend), through a coordinated set of flowing poses to open and prepare the body for deeper expressions of the postures. Students are encouraged to develop a consistent home practice. Class meets once each week, and students are encouraged to attend one additional 'drop-in' class each week, for additional practice (included).
MEDITATION - BEGINNER'S SERIES
Peace, Joy, Contentment... these become a way of life when we learn to focus inward and still the mind. Explore ways to journey 'within' through simple techniques including breathing, relaxation, gentle stretching and mantra repetition. Learn a 5-stage plan to basic meditation, guidelines on how to sit with comfort and work with the breath. "So the question is not: Why start off on such a path? You have already started off. You did so with the first beat of your heart. The question is: Do I wish to walk this path consciously, or unconsciously? With awareness or lack of awareness? MEDITATION - THE CHAKRA SYSTEM
Come and explore the Chakra system and learn ways to practice yoga poses, breathing and chanting techniques that will tap into the chakras. Join us for this 6-week immersion into the Chakra system, to learn the characteristics of each Chakra and to explore mindfulness meditation together. Learn the art of chanting to release the vibrational energy of each chakra, and experience release of mental and emotional toxins, as we move, breathe and chant together.
BREATHING WORKSHOP
Come learn what your breathing pattern means and what connected breathing can do for you. The way you breathe is a direct reflection of your relationship to life. If you want real transformation in your life, you must learn the power of your breath. Resolve traumas and unhealthy behavior, increase flexibility and endurance, deeply connect with your higher power and expression of your mind and heart. ALTERNATIVE FITNESS
BELLY DANCING - LEVEL I
Beginner I classes will emphasize belly dance fundamentals including proper dance posture, basic isolations, simple shimmies and footwork. This course is appropriate for beginner's, or for those looking to practice the basics of Middle-Eastern belly dancing. Great to tone the mid-section, increase body awareness and gain self-confidence. This class will prepare students for the next class (Level 2), which will start combining isolations and movements. Workshop includes a Free Coin Skirt!
BELLY DANCING - LEVEL II
Beginner II classes will build on skills learned in the Beginner I series, including proper dance posture, basic isolations, simple shimmies and footwork. New skills will be introduced such as complex isolations, layering, and stylized shimmies. Students will be taught the art and use of veils and how to incorporate them into the dance. Students will be encouraged to practice daily using elements learned in class to improvise their own expression of dance.
HOOPNOTICA - HOOP BASICS
Hoopnotica hoop dancing is an unbelievably effective full body work-out using hula-hoops. This innovative class provides an incredibly efficient work-out that tones the entire body, strengthens the body's core, burns fat and defines the waistline. Not to mention that it's just tons of fun! Hoopnotica hoop dancing is the new hot trend in alternative fitness that is sweeping the globe. Even celebrities like Beyonce are hooping it up to stay in shape! Self Magazine: "The rotating movements require input from the ab and back muscles, trimming your middle without even feeling like exercise."
HOOPNOTICA - LEVEL II
This class provides an incredibly efficient work-out that tones the entire body, strengthens the body's core, burns fat and defines the waistline. Not to mention that it's just tons of fun! Join us for this continuation class, designed for Hoopnotica I graduates, and anyone that can already Hoop! Learn to perfect the basic elements and start blending them together into choreographed dance moves. Review of basic hip hooping, halos, double-halos, corkscrews, chest and leg hooping. Must bring own hoop, or call ahead to reserve a rental; Travel Hoops also available for purchase.
ZUMBATOMIC - DANCE for KIDS
ZumbAtomic is a specially designed class for children at a recommended age group of 4-12. Lil Starz classes are for kids ages 4-7, and Big Starz are for kids ages 8-12. The goal of Zumbatomic is to deveop a healthy lifestyle, to incorporate fitness as a natural part of children's lives, not just a class that they attend once a week. While exercise is indeed a very important element of childhood development, Zumbatomic also considers the whole child. Developing a healthy lifestyle, therefore, includes learning: leadership, respect, teamwork, pride, confidence, responsibility. Students will also develop: coordination, balance, discipline, memory and creativity.WORKSHOP POLICIES:
